9 August 2025 | 6pm, West Nic Records “Little Cellar” ★★★★★
If there’s one thing certain at this year’s fringe, it’s that Kyle legacy (Hot Water Comedy Club) and Dean Coughlin (Chortle Hot Shot 2025) have cracked the code with 100% scouse. With a packed room and around 15 eager punters turned away at the door with multiple more trying to get in mid-show, it looks as if the 45 capacity “little cellar” isn’t enough and a bigger room is needed. After watching the show, I quickly understood what the hype was about. Opening with familiar Liverpool chants the duo quickly establish a scouse atmosphere without relying too heavily on football jokes, making the show accessible for everyone. Legacy has the swagger of a man who can talk his way out of anything while Coughlin in contrast offers a calmer more deliberate delivery that tells you he is always two steps ahead. The chemistry between the duo is undeniable and there is a sense that the two of them are having just as much fun as the audience. The heart of the show lies in its crowd work, periodically the pair will reach into a bucket of slips filled to the brim with topics and questions from the audience and they then spin these unexpected prompts into clever improvised comedy. The interactive element to the show keeps the energy high and the laughs rolling non-stop. This is more than a fringe show, this is the start of something bigger. With their confidence and comedic timing, I believe they can fill far bigger rooms. Kyle Legacy and Dean Coughlin are definitely ones to watch this fringe, give them a bigger room next year or better yet a national tour.
