About the Edinburgh Independent Awards

The Edinburgh Independent Awards are a new celebration of independent and emerging talent across the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, created by For The Plot Magazine. The awards recognise brilliant work across the festival, with a focus on performers and productions who may not have the large budgets or PR teams behind them that often help shows get noticed.

2026 Awards Consideration

For The Plot Magazine’s team of 25 reviewers has been covering shows throughout the 2026 Edinburgh Fringe, with shows already reviewed and recommended by our team automatically eligible for consideration.

Public submissions are also open to ensure productions we may not yet have covered have the opportunity to put themselves forward. Following submissions, the team will continue to see and consider shows ahead of the longlist and shortlist.

Final winners will be decided primarily through public voting, alongside consideration from the For The Plot judging team.

Public voting will open following the shortlist announcement on 22 August. Voting will be available for shortlisted nominees only, with the results contributing to the final decision alongside the For The Plot judging team.
